1892 The new company Wayne granted the first patent for the auto-dispensing pump which is attached to a larger tank.
1924 This year, a man by the name of Jacob Ljungman establishes a company in Sweden for the manufacture and development of apparatus for storing and distributing inflammable oils. The picture shows FATOS, which is Ljungman's first petrol pump. It had a five-litre volumetric gauge and a draining valve in the base. FATOS was also the world’s first coin-operated automat. You could purchase approximately five litres of petrol for 1 SEK.
1927 With VICI you could choose any number of litres you liked. The 25-litre volumetric gauge gave fixed measurements and was marked off at 5-litre intervals.
1950 STAR 76 The fashion of manufacturing shorter pumps spread from the U.S.A. The Star 76 was the product of this trend. It was later fitted with a swingarm, a great innovation at the time.
1965 The STAR 167 had an even more modern design. It has been Ljungmans’ most widely sold pump throughout the years.
1967 The age of change has arrived and Ljungmans introduces a system which allows for automatic payment by credit card. The system, which is one of the first in the world, is named Selfo. Automatic bank note terminals also make their entry onto the petrol market and make refuelling easier 24 hours a day.
1970 Dresser Wayne AB takes in 1970 a leap into the American group of companies Dresser Industries Inc., a part of a world-wide group with its head office in Dallas, Texas.
1972 STAR ULTRA U20 is the first electronic petrol pump in the world. It is controlled by an electronic computer at the petrol station. There were many features, such as price pre-setting and buttons for octane selection.
1977 STAR ULTRA 77 marks the beginning of the use of microprocessers in petrol pumps. The pump works with modern computer communication both to the selfservice equipment as well as to the bank note/card automats. Only three octane grades are available on the market at the moment.
1982 The STAR ULTRA 850 marks the complete take over of computer-controlled electronics. Octane mixing is electronically controlled. The nozzle switch contains no movable parts. The numbers are of the LCD-type.
1985 This year the Star Ultra 800- series is launched. Amongst other features it is designed to allow two vehicles to refuel from the same pump individually and at the same time.
1987 Things become much more simple for everyone working at petrol stations. With the introduction of System Marketer 2000, and later ISM 3000, (see picture) a completely new bank note and card system is presented for the sale of both fuel and customer goods.
1989 The Ljungman name disappears and the company’s name is Wayne.
1990 At this time the combined payment terminal PT2000CB is launched catering for both credit cards and bank notes. (The picture shows PT 2000C). This is later followed by the credit card terminal PT3000C which is integrated in the pump. Can also be delivered stand alone with only card or combined with bank note.
